Helllo Realmers,
He’s one the guys behind the data based decisions we make here at DECA. And after the first answers you’ll soon realize that there’s something fishy with him… apart from playing Runescape for the last 15 years. Meet Volvax.
Who are you and what do you do at DECA?
My in-game name is Volvax I am from Romania and I am 30 years old. My job currently at Deca Games is a Data Analyst within the Business Intelligence team. My main job is to ensure data integrity, cleaning, and extraction. The idea behind this is to listen to the data in order to make informed decision for the game, its features, and new additions.
Any hidden talents or hobbies?
One of my hidden talents is that I enjoy fishing keeping and breeding. I have had several tanks in the past, so much so, that I had categories. One was simply for fish to acclimate once they got home from the store. I also had a breeder tank that was only used to mate fish and keep baby fish up to a certain growth stage. It is a very demanding hobby that requires a lot of time, however, after work it is the perfect way to relax until the rest of the family arrives home.
How did you end-up on DECA?
I ended up at DECA because I was looking for a job that encompassed all of my passions, and had the culture that fit my character. I applied to DECA and after a month of interviews and test, I was offered my current position as Data Analyst. I believe DECA is a great company to work for, they care for their staff and players, but also want to see you grow and ensure you fit the mold of your role as much as possible. I would not have it any other way, and I have worked a several large firms and gaming companies, but at DECA I feel like I belong.
Did you play RotMG before?
I have not played RotMG before joining DECA, but since I have, this has been a staple game in my arsenal. I think that not knowing when and how you will lose the character, and how committed you are to taking risks for great rewards, is exactly where RotMG shines as a game. The game also has very dedicated staff that are passionate about it, and want to see the game continue to be a success and a special place in players’ hearts.
Favorite Class, Dungeon and Item?
My favorite class is Wizard, mostly because I am vanilla fantasy game lover, and while I have tried all of the classes, to me the wizard, represents the best of all worlds. This is in terms of fire rate, mana, hp, and when you exalt and add all other bonuses from equipment and so on, the character fits perfectly into the mantra of usage. My favorite dungeon is Shatters, it represents a fun time, coupled with a few puzzles and it is great fun in groups. My favorite item in the game would have to be Omnipotence Ring, as it provides boosts to every stat, and can be used on most classes.
What other games do you play?
I play a wide range of games, from city building, to RPG, to MMORPG. My longest running game in my arsenal is Runescape. I have played it for 15 years and have not yet stopped, although it can be thought of a long-term investment, in terms of time and sometimes money.
What makes RotMG unique?
RotMG is unique because you will most likely never keep a character alive forever, the idea of perma- death is what makes RotMG a very interesting and intriguing game. You want to get fame and get stronger, but at the same time, you don’t want to lose your favorite character that you have poured months of time into.
What would you change?
I would change pets to be more useful than simply for healing, they could really be used for many other things, for example: gathering items, protecting you further, offering more benefits in terms of xp or maybe allow you to find new items. They should play a more deep and vital role, in my opinion.
How do you see the game in 10 years?
I see the game having more and more great additions to it, adding both quality of life, as well as new game play scope for the players, and I believe it could become something truly great. The value this title can bring is huge, and any ideas from the players we always welcome and look into, to take it to new heights.
